The Langoliers are fierce balls of fur, teeth, and, and feet designated to eat those without purpose, or so Mr. Craig Toomy tells the audience. They are actually early computer animations. It’s a movie by Stephen King, so it’s rather scary and intriguing the first go around, but dull every viewing thereafter.
Kate plays the little blind girl, Dinah Catherine Bellman, complete with ears sharp enough to hear a flea sneeze at a hundred yards, and the wild talent of being able to sometimes see what other people are seeing/thinking. Her character is traveling from L. A. with her Aunt Vicki to Boston so that she may get an operation that may cure her blindness.
Synopsis/plot: the passengers of American Pride, Flight 29, suddenly find themselves traveling on the airplane with most of the rest of the passengers and all of the crew having disappeared for some unknown reason. Fortunately, one of the passengers happens to be a pilot for American Pride (Captain Brain Engle played by David Morse) who takes control of the craft. But more problems erupt when one of the passengers, Craig Toomy (played by Bronson Pinchot) strongly objects to the captain's decision to change destinations to Bangor Maine.
Once they are down the ground, they discover that not only were they the only people left on the airplane, but it seems as though they are the only people left on the planet. Things quickly get worse, as it seems the very properties of physics have somehow changed on them: matches won't light, food has no taste, beverages have no carbonation, etc. so it seems like they are stuck. And then there's a frightening sound coming from the east that resembles rice crispies...
Genre: Sci-fi/Mystery Rated PG-13
This movie has a bit of violence and gore, plenty of suspense, and a drawn out plot. I would not recommend it for viewers younger than 10.
The Langoliers also featured Bronson Pinchot, Dean Stockwell, David Morse, Patricia Wettig, Mark Lindsay Chapman, Frankie Faison, Christopher Collet, Kimber Riddle, and Baxter Harris. Directed by Tom Holland.
As an intriguing side note Dean Stockwell who plays Bob Jenkins was in the 1949 version of The Secret Garden as Colin Craven.
